ALL THAT GLITTERS

oil and encaustic wax on canvas, 36” x 36”, 2021.

Agostino Vaccaro has found his voice as an artist. His former tight realism has given way to a genre-bending amalgamation of pictograms, patterns, prints and painting. These new works defy easy categorization. One is reminded of the vitality of cultures that welcome an infusion of new sensibilities. As an artist, Mr. Vaccaro has preserved what was useful from his earlier training and rolled it into his personal vision.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is about deviating from the norm. I have developed a bold visual language that juxtaposes bold, graphic shapes, patterns, and printmaking with areas of realistically painted forms. My paintings rely on the use of symbols to get my conceptual ideas across, allowing the viewer to bring their own associations and life experiences to my images.

Recurring themes throughout my work include sexuality, identity, morality, and the celebration of human vices. I treat these conceptual ideas in a playful way through the use of bold color, patterns, symbols, creating an overall unified look throughout my body of work.
